Unit 1

Ganabadi unit 1 will teach students all the fundamentals and basics of Carnatic Music. In this unit, common words and vital aspects—such as shruti and tālam—and simple exercises and songs will be covered. This unit also teaches students Ganabadi's transliteration scheme, so that they can pronounce the lyrics properly in the set language

The theoretical topics discuss the meaning of music and nādam, shruti, swaram, layam, and their aspects. Shruti and layā are the mātā and pitā, or mother and father, of Carnatic Music. These topics are vital in order to properly practise music, hence it is advised students not skip this section if they are not familiar with the topics already.

The practical lessons bring forth simple exercises—including the Saralī Varisai, Janta Varisai, Dāttu Varisai, and Mēla Sthāyi Varisai—and simple songs—such as the Indian National Anthem, a short gītam, and a nōttu swaram. These exercises are very influential and will prepare students for upcoming advancements. These exercises should remain in one's daily practice routine even after their mastery, for their effects are everlasting. Scroll down to start your journey through Carnatic Music!
