Unit 3

Ganabadi unit 3 teaches students additional exercises and more intermediate-level music. In this unit, students will learn about the genesis of Carnatic music, common music forms, Swarajatis, Varnas, simple Keerthanas, and more. This unit will prepare students for high-level singing, and excellent quality performances. 

The theoretical section will include lessons about the genesis and history of Carnatic music, the common music forms of Carnatic music – such as Swarajatis, Kirthanas, and Varnas, and short biographies of Arunagirinathar, Ramadasu, and Swati Thirunal Maharaja. 

In the practical section, students will learn to sing several Swarajathis, including Rāra Vēnugōpa Bālā, and Sāmbasivāyana. This section will also teach common Varnas, all from a variety of rāgās. Students will also be introduced to simple Kīrtanās, one of the most prominent forms of Carnatic music.
